What is a digipak?
A digipak is a printed card packaging that if often used for CDs or DVDs. These digipak, are usually made from cardboard stock, containing an internal plastic holder that is capable of holding one or more discs.
Why are they used?
Digipak's were very popular from since they first came out in 1990s, where it was originally a brand which had their own logo, however many other artists started to use their own versions of the packaging. Digipaks are used to package artists musics, songs and albums in one case that holds the disk.Artists are allowed to create and design there digipaks which the cover of there album or song. They can write on them even sign them which all the songs which it includes with the number it will be on. This is good for the artists as with this designed digipak they can put whatever they want on there cover that describes them, their music and the genre making it more stand out to the consumers.
This is Taylor Swift's digipak for her country album Fearless. Taylor designed and produced this in 2008. Taylor has designed the cover of her album which links to the genre of her album. Country music is usually sung or vocalized with an string instrument. The lighting they have used is this low-key orange dim lighting which focuses very well with the artist.We can see in the cover she is holding her quilter which is an typical characteristic for country which is an automatic sense of which genre it is straight away as it is country musics classic characteristics. The brown tints in the lamp and guitar creating this calm and smooth feel to the picture like a typical country song.
Arctic Monkeys is a rock band with 4 members. This is the cover of there digipak for there album AM. They have designed this with a simple black background with a smooth white wavy line across the album and there band name is bold large white writing at the bottom. Using these black and white colors creates a dramatic effect to the image as well as the white stands out from the black so much from there contrast. The image seems to have harsh lighting and solid shadows.
