Reflection
I have taken some time to do some research into the dance/electronic as it is my chosen genre with the song I picked out You and Me by disclosure. Electronic dance music is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres largely made for nightclubs, raves and festivals. The typical conventions and codes in a music video of Electronic dance which i have research is and made some notes on is:
Mise en scene
-Bright colors
-Strange scenes/plots
Camera shots:
-Wide angle shots
-Pan shots
-Tracking shots
-Close up shots (faces)
Editing
-Digital effects
-Creates personality and style
-Fast paced cuts
These codes and conventions are typically associated with electronic dance music as it reflects the madness and style of the genre through the fact that the graphics and the sound are synonymous. These bright colors and digital effects are often used within this genre and their music videos to keep the audience's attention to keep them interested in what's going on as well as differentiate the video from the current mainstream music videos. Electronic dance typically features strange plots and storylines for example 'Head Splitter' by Getter as they often convey the crazy personality of the artist and aim to add a bit of humour and personality to the music video instead of being similar to mainstream music videos that often have similar plots and storylines. Making this genre stand and be more unique to the others.
