Within the music industry they have been many scandals and controversies between different artists and their record label, one of these as an example would be the Kayne West and Taylor Swift drama at the VMAS. Due to competition, stress and the media and music industry changing 24/7  makes it very easy for artists to get all caught up in it. The music industry is a constant opportunity for artists to rise and been seen. Within the industry everything grows and changes so quickly, although, one of the main issues with the music industry is that it is very controversial as the artists have a big struggle with making money and only 10% of them are successful as to earn a decent income they should be getting over 100,000 streamers constantly but only if they have the rights to their music however the majority as mainstream artists their earnings go to the record label they are singed with. Another example of an controversy within the music industry is the sexism, due to the management in the music industry is dominantly men seen through the women being sexualised in their music videos and album covers. This is a massive issue as this is being outted and spoken about on all media platforms. There was also the incident where Kesha got raped and sexually assaulted by her music producers, where he lied and blackmailed her into not saying anything to the public. This is a bad issue in the music industry as it showing sexual assault and rape through the management and the music industry as a whole.

Who are the most popular artists at the moment

 Through my research i have seen that Drake and pop group BTS are the most popular artists being currently listened to at this moment. Drake is number one on the chart list billboard with a number of 4,200,639 fans tracking them on everything he uploads. Spotify just published that Drake has just overtaken Ariana Grande and been most streamed artist for three years in a row. His music is shown all very social media platforms like Tiktok, instagram, facebook and adverts. Pop group BTS are also a very popular as they have been named the best selling artists of 2020 by the organisation that represents the global recorded music industry. They're known globally all over the world,  advertised everywhere. Most famous songs which is Butter and dynamite which is heard through all social media platforms.

How they sell there music

The majority of artists revenues come from tourism, selling their merchandise, licensing their music for the use of TV, movies, video . Also through distribution of multiple social media platforms like youtube, Spotify, apple music, deezer, sound cloud and streaming as this is also seen as the future of music.

For example, Taylor swift has created a whole website of her merchandise where her name, album or a song is written on what even item you would like ranging from a mug, clothes, magazines, hair brushes, perfume, bags and many more. This is a her biggest advertisement for her music.

Another example, Selena Gomez as well as many other artists used there social media pages to sell there music. Social media has now ever more become one of the biggest ways of communicating and advertisings anything. As we can see she has used her platform to post a photo of her new album cover that she has just released. This is then seen by all her fans and large following which is then shared and posted to many other people across thw whole world ending up giving her self double the viewing and awareness of herself and her music.
